Best for
• Travellers already staying in Marsa Alam, Port Ghalib or El Quseir • Stargazers and photographers • Anyone looking for a quieter desert than Hurghada or Sharm
Marsa Alam is Egypt quietest safari hub. Fewer crowds, darker night skies, longer transfers — and a more remote feel than Hurghada or Sharm.
It is the southernmost Red Sea hub, with thinly populated desert behind it. Fewer roads, fewer hotels, less light pollution. The stargazing nights here are genuinely darker than Hurghada or Sharm.
Marsa Alam hotel zone, Port Ghalib and El Quseir.
October to April for comfortable daytime safari. Stargazing tours run year-round because they go out late.
Closed shoes, scarf, sunscreen, warm layer for stargazing. A red-light torch helps if you have one for star sessions.

• Day-trippers from Hurghada — the drive is too long • Visitors who want big tourist crowds and shows • Pregnant guests on quad/Polaris
We do not recommend it. The drive is around 3.5 hours each way. Better to book in Hurghada if you are staying there.
On clear, moonless nights, yes. The guide picks the best dates around the new moon when possible.
